Yobo was great for me – Moyes




David Moyes, former Everton and Manchester United manager, has expressed joy at Joseph Yobo’s glorious retirement from football, admitting the the former Super Eagles captain helped him while he (Yobo) was at Everton.

The Scot was in Nigeria for Yobo’s testimonial, which held on Friday in Port Harcourt and speaking about Yobo, Moyes said he had come to show his respect to his former player for how he helped him when they were both at the Goodison Park.
“He (Yobo) helped me when I was manager at Everton and that is why I have come to show my respect to him,” Moyes said.
Yobo, 35, was Moyes’ first signing at Everton in 2002, with the Nigerian going on to represent the Tofees for the next ten years and the former Everton boss couldn’t hide his admiration for the former Olympique Marseille defender.
“He was my first signing, I brought him from Marseille and he was great for me and this is why I came to Nigeria and it was great to have him,” added Moyes.
The former Real Sociedad boss was in charge of ‘Team World’ in the testimonial which lost 5-4 to ‘Team Nigeria’.
Yobo retired from international football following Nigeria’s exit at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
