Former PDP Scribe, Onwe, Arrested For Kidnapping

The Ebonyi State Police Command yesterday announced the arrest of the former acting national secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Onwe Solomon Onwe for alleged gun running and kidnapping.

Also arrested is a police inspector attached to the state command and alleged member of a gang, Francis Onyeka.
He was arrested for attempting to release a suspect undergoing investigation.
Confirming the development to newsmen in his office, the state police public relations officer, DSP George Okafor, said Onwe had been empowering a notorious gang that had been terrorising the people through kidnapping and armed robbery.
‘’Sometime ago, you must have heard about the killing of one of our policemen, a sergeant who was killed in April by hoodlums along Abakaliki/Enugu Expressway while trying to confront hoodlums who robbed someone in the area.
‘’The hoodlums have been terrorising this town and it is the same group that kidnapped one Hilary at Umuoghara  in Ezza North local government area of the state, where we tried our best to rescue him and in the process of rescuing him, there was a shootout between the police and the criminals, which eventually led to the death of one Ejike who was riding a Camry that was snatched from the owner sometime ago along Convent road, Abakaliki here.
‘’It is the same matter that brought in Onwe S. Onwe and while the investigation of the matter is on-going, we were able to arrest Emeka Akonuche, who was part of the gang of the kidnappers. We arrested him somewhere at Nkaliki area in Abakaliki.
Emeka Akonuche was able to escape and we were able to get at his wife because it was his place that the victim was kept. The woman was arrested and brought to our office and while undergoing interrogation, there were approaches as to the process of granting her bail.
Also, one other person was arrested and in the process, we discovered that one of those making approaches for the woman’s bail was one of our own, Inspector Francis Onyeka and he was coming in with one Christian Chinedu Ogba from Ohaukwu. The two were pressing for the woman to be released and they have been making approaches and we have been watching their steps.
‘‘As we were watching their steps, there was intuition for us to know where they were coming from and eventually, both of them were arrested and they turned out to be members of the gang.’’
