How trafficked victims lose vital organs abroad – NAPTIP

National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons has raised the alarm that many Nigerian victims of human trafficking forcefully lose some of their important organs including kidneys and hearts to human trafficking abroad.

The Coordinator of NAPTIP Lagos chapter, Olufunke Kolawole, disclosed this while addressing residents of Igan-Okoto in Ogun State against child trafficking.
Kolawole added that child trafficking took a new dimension of the outlawed slavery in Nigeria.
She said some young Nigerian girls were being forcefully taken to foreign countries and made to work as sex slaves for their masters.
According to her, I worked in counselling and rehabilitation centre for eight years and some of child trafficking survivors come back with infections like HIV, AIDS and STDs.
“Another way those involved in child trafficking business get their money is that they remove the kidney or heart of the child and sell to those in need.
“Some even came with unwanted pregnancies and through that, they are exposed to shame, rejection among others.
“There was a girl who was taken to Spain with some other persons in child trafficking but she was the only one who survived because the other persons died along the way.
“The survivor said when they got to Spain, it was during a war and she managed to escape to a man’s house and the man said he will only accommodate her if she will become his wife and she agreed as she needed somewhere to stay for the war to end.”
