CAMPUS DIARY ON 4th AUGUST, 2016 IBB UNIVERSITY : SUG Pledges Support for Sports Development  By Fodio Ahmed

The Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University’s Student Union Government Executive Council led by its President, Comrade Ahmed Sadiq Paiko have expressed their readiness and willingness to support Sports Development in the University. The Council gave the pledge assurance at the Closing Ceremony of the University’s 2016 edition of Inter-Faculty games held at the Sports complex of the University in late July.

Speaking to CAMPUS DIARIST, the Dean of IBBU’s Faculty of Arts and Education, Dr. M.S. Muhammad noted that, the Union has a very important role to play in mobilizing students participation and
ensuring that Sporting activities in the University is not relegated to the background.

The Dean added that, the University’s Sports management team are working round the clock to ensure quality outing and proper representation at the 2016 edition of Nigerian University Games Association, NUGA, slated for October/November in Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
On the Wednesday games, the Dean disclosed that “as far as the University management is concerned, all Lectures in the University terminates by 3pm, therefore any Lecturer that fixes lecture after 3pm is simply disobeying the University’s Senate, who are the highest decision making body of the University”.

Recall, the University’s Sports Officer, Mallam BM Dzukogi stated that, Sports in IBBU, since the assumption of Professor M.N. Maiturare has gained frequency and momentum with the VC leading trainings. He added that, the Wednesday games have been observed diligently by students and many enthusiastic staff.

Mallam Dzukogi then used the medium to appeal to Lecturers especially, to key into the Sports revolution of the institution by obeying the University’s regulation of ending lectures by 3pm every Wednesday to enable students participate fully.

In his response, the SUG President, Comrade Ahmed Sadiq Paiko stated that, Sports being a major unifying factor not just in the University but all over the world is very important to be ignored which is why; his administration will place it on a topmost priority.

He added that, aside the Health benefit of Sports, it is also an avenue for talent discovery and showcasing, thereby “my administration will not leave any stone unturned in seeing that Sports in IBB University gets its appropriate attention” he disclosed while applauding the interest will and commitment of the Vice Chancellor on Sports Development.
