NYSC To Launch Nationwide Biometric Verification Of Corps Members

National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is to commence nationwide biometric verification of corps members aimed at the enthronement of transparency and accountability in all aspects of its operations.

The NYSC Director General, Brig. Gen. Sule Zakarai Kazaure, stated this yesterday in Katsina, Katsina State, at the launch of training workshop on biometric clearance for corps members in local government areas for the seven states in the North West geo-political zone.
Kazaure, who was represented by Director, Planning, Research and Statistics of the directorate, Chief Anthony Ani, said the training was organized to equip all staff of the NYSC states’ secretariats with requisite knowledge to ensure a smooth take-off of the biometric verification process as from October, 2016.
According to him, the introduction of the biometric process which took off in Lagos and FCT as pilot has greatly improved the efficiency of corps members hence the need to extend the process to other states of the federation.
Declaring open the workshop which has as its theme: “Ensuring Accountability in corps activities using ICT,” the state governor, Aminu Bello Masari, said the NYSC’s drive towards entrenching effective and efficient management system through the deployment of ICT in recent times is a step in the right direction.
Masari, represented by the chairman, NYSC State Governing Board, who also doubles as his Special Adviser on Youth Development, Ibrahim Khalil Aminu, pointed out that the NYSC has remained a pillar of support to the state government through the supply of manpower for socio-economic development.
In his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator in Katsina, Mr. John Okpo, lauded the state government for hosting two national training programmes of NYSC this year in addition to other support being received by the scheme in Katsina.
Mr. Okpo hailed the priority being accorded the state by NYSC management as a further testimony of Masari’s positive disposition to the scheme despite the current economic challenges.
