OAU’s best student, Elebuibon’s son, dies before convocation

Parents and well-wishers yesterday wept profusely at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife convocation ground when one of the best graduating students, Bibilari Elebuibon, was asked to step forward to collect his award.

But instead of stepping forward, a voice announced that Elebuibon had died.
His invitation for the receipt of the award by the Dean of Faculty of Arts, Prof. Gbemisola Adeoti, threw the people into a sobbing.
Tears rolled down the cheeks of his colleagues instead of a standing ovation. Bibilari, said to be the son to a popular Ifa priest in Osogbo, Chief Yemi Elebuibon, bagged the award of best student overall performance in Yoruba Language, Faculty of Arts at the 42nd convocation ceremony of the OAU.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the institution, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, announced that a minute silence be observed in honour of the deceased.
It was learnt that Bibilari was a victim of an auto crash which occurred in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, in July. In the accident, no fewer than four persons died while about three sustained various degrees of injury.
In his speech, the acting Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof Anthony Elujoba, charged the graduating students to be productive in any given society they might found themselves.
Elujoba added that the institution had given enough education that could make the graduands withstand the hurdles and challenges of life while they were on the campus. He then urged them to be good ambassadors of OAU wherever they might be.
