Senate suspends Ali Ndume for 6 months

The Nigerian Senate has suspended former Majority Leader of the House, Ali Ndume for six months.
The suspension follows the submission of the report of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges over his motion that led to the investigation against Senate President Bukola Saraki and Senator Dino Melaye
Ndume had last week raised a Point of Order notifying the house of the allegation against Saraki, over the purchase of a Range Rover Jeep, which was said to have cost the Senate N298 million, with the Customs duties unpaid.
Ndume also drew the attention of the Senate to the alleged certificate forgery against Senator Dino Melaye.
At the hearing of the committee on Monday, both Saraki and Melaye were cleared.
The committee led by  Senator Sam Anyanwu  in its report, which was submitted on Wednesday called for the suspension ofi Ndume, for one year.
According to the report, Ndume should be be suspended for one year for failing to do due diligence before bringing up matters at plenary.
Other senators while responding to the report, however, pleaded and requested that the suspension be reduced to six months.
The request was put into a question with those in support in majority.
Wednesday’s plenary was presided over by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
Ndume was removed as Senate Leader in January, 2017.
