Security operatives invade residence of ex-NIA boss, Dauda

Armed security operatives yesterday invaded the official residence of the immediate past acting Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Dauda Mohammed.

The armed operatives were still at the official residence located in Maitama District of Abuja last night when Daily Trust reporter visited.
The residence located at No 3 Osara Lane, off Osara Close, Maitama, was invaded by several operatives, with about 10 of them holding a vigil outside the gate of the property.
Security sources said the operatives were there to evict the ambassador, who was in Chad before his redeployment back to Abuja to head the agency.
The agency was recently embroiled in leadership crisis after the appointment of the current DG, Dr Rufa’i Abubakar by President Muhammadu Buhari.
The House of Representatives committee on national intelligence and public safety is investigating the agency over N15 billion recovered last year by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Osborne Street, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The lawmakers were also probing the controversy surrounding the new DG’s nationality, citizenship, and competence, which came to question through a petition by some senior directors in the agency.
The committee is also probing the alleged carting away of $44 million from the NIA shortly after the appointment of the new DG.
