Channels TV Reporter and Camera Man Assaulted By Policemen In Niger State While Covering The Tafa Local Government Election!!!!

Emperor Simon , a channels TV reporter in Niger State covering the Tafa local government election situation was assaulted by policemen alongside a camera man in his words;

"Earlier today in one of my posts, I did mention that we would follow up on the local government election crisis in Tafa local government area of Niger State, following the cancellation of the election by the State Independent Electoral Commission on Monday.

 Well, we did. But, our experience in the hands of men of the Nigerian Police Force stationed at the local government headquarters at Sabon Wuse was a terrible one. They descended on me and my cameraman and beat us to pop. We were hit mercilessly with sticks and gun butts as if we were criminals. They also cocked their guns at us, threatening to shoot us... While I eventually managed to escape, they arrested my cameraman and held him in their custody for about four hours before he was released following the directive by the Police Commissioner, Niger State Command.

It's quite unfortunate and barbaric that in this 21st century, the Nigerian Police Force is still caught in the web of human right abuses and extra judicial acts. Aged women who came to protest were teargassed and arrested even when they were "harmless". May God help us. But, as for me, my love for journalism has only grown stronger."
